After a typical night of scouring trendy bars for some action, Peter manages to take home the sexy Rachel Jennifer Beals , who bites him on the neck while they're in bed.

The next day, Peter is certain he is now a vampire. Though no one shares his point of view and he hasn't changed physically, he dons fake fangs and begins stalking women.

Kevin M. W Super Reviewer. Oct 05, At the witching hour in NYC, the opening title sequence for the fiendishly pell-mell, daft cult classic 'Vampire's Kiss' is drenched in atmospheric ghoulishness.

When a bat flutters around his apartment, it's a toss-up as to who is frothing more rabidly: the winged beast or Cage as the womanizing literary agent.

For the record, Cage's flights of bombastic, gangly grandeur don't really occur until the half-hour mark. Cage nails the snide Upper West Side accent and who else could sincerely deliver the line "I was in mortal combat with a fucking bat".

It's only germane for the film's darkly humorous sensibilities that the tone is more sobering than broad like a sulfuric Bret Easton Ellis novel much like Patrick Bateman, Cage is a white-collar professional in Paul Smith suits with homicidal delusions.

Public outbursts are Cage's forte and this is practically an acting showcase for his tics and mannerisms but it doesn't diminish how eminently sensational he is.

Rather than chewing the scenery, he literally obliterates in a scene where he completely vandalizes his own apartment and eats a live cockroach.

Along with Cage's askew Method theatrics, we are regaled with a nubile Jennifer Beals in lingerie. On the downside, Cage's mistreatment of his secretary Maria Conchita Alonso is brazenly misogynistic to the point where a rape is ostensibly envisioned as a rib-tickling set piece ex.

When Cage confesses, his psychiatrist blithely remarks "It's just a little id release. No need to worry. Cory T Super Reviewer. Jan 22, Back when vampires had a certain deadly sex appeal, not overly romanticized like they are, vampire films were lots of fun and highly entertaining.

Vampire's Kiss is another standout vampire feature from the 's. Starring Nicholas Cage, who is terrific in the lead performance of Peter Loew, a man who falls victim to a vampire.

Cage delivers a powerful performance here, and it ranks among his finer, more underrated performances as well. The film has a great blend of horror mixed with hints of black humor to really make something unique.

What we end up with is an overlooked vampire film that deserves to be rediscovered. While films like Fright Night, The Lost Boys and Near Dark get the credit as being the three best vampire flicks of the decade, Vampire's Kiss is also in the same category, although no one ever seems to mention this film.

The film features several memorable scenes, especially the one where Cage is his office and losing his and threatening to fire his secretary, which inspired an internet meme.

This film is a must watch for any genre fan, and viewers who are normally reluctant to watch a Nicholas Cage film due mainly to his recent body work, might be surprised at how good he is here.

Every scene he's in, he just commands it, with a dark intensity and his performance alone should make anyone want to watch this film.

The writing is brilliant, and in terms of vampire films, this one is straight forward, one that relies on the cold blooded nature of the bloodsucker lore, and making something truly remarkable in the process.

As far as vampire films go, Vampire's Kiss is sure to satisfy genre fans, and it's a highly entertaining film that you can sink your teeth into.

Vampire’S Kiss

It's a mess -- but it goes places you can't imagine despite the workmanlike screenwriting and the slow pace of the beginning. It's worth it. Charlie Kaufman could have written it, it's so bizarre and beyond the norm for the silly Hollywood movie it's disguised as.

I don't want to analyze it as some metaphor for a relationship with a blood-sucking bitch as others have or argue what's real and what's not. I watched it expecting some anemic late 80's comedy and with that expectation, I found myself bolting upright in my chair in surprise at what it delivered.

One of Nic Cage's best early performances, ranks with Raising Arizona and Valley Girl, except he's never sympathetic -- ever. In that sense, I understand what people mean when they say it's a monster movie.

The problem with this plot is she can find her brother through Ghost whisper gift specially available to level 7 angel which she may achieve after at least few years and that even if she can make it to all trials.

Now if you ask me that's very long shot. How does she know by that time her brother would be alive or not turned into some kind of monster?

So tomorrow instead of some street urchin with just strong will power would be be like higher up Angel or Gods bastard child for all we know.

And then we have fallen angel's son as her trainer and potential love interest, of course. Problem no. I don't like Leda calls others Legion brats when she herself behaves like a brat all the time.

Smart mouth is fine but I liked her better when she keeps quiet. With all this problems, I still would like to continue as the story has potential.

It is not mind blowing but I think because I went into this with the least expectations, I am pleasantly surprised. I have already started with 2 so definitely going to continue this series Shelves: to-review.

This was a fast paced and fun read that got me out of my reading slump. Looking forward to reading more of this series.

This is entirely me and not the book, because of the white haired badass female mc and the angel of New York my mind immediately went to one of most favorite couples ever.

This while having a few similarities isn't that series. I'm not a fan of Nero's though he's dream to the h he's too wishy washy for me Ugh that OM drama was ridiculous The h was a badass, bold and fearless yet still retaining her humanity Channeling Elena vibes but Everytime she had tender thoughts for Nero I got pissed.

Interes This is entirely me and not the book, because of the white haired badass female mc and the angel of New York my mind immediately went to one of most favorite couples ever.

Interesting plot and development but it's tough to enjoy a series while not liking one of the mcs, nevertheless I'm curious enough to move on.

Oct 29, Jeanny rated it liked it. Hell of a cliffhanger ending. May 19, Kate rated it did not like it.

Which is why I felt compelled to write THIS review, even though I could only make it a quarter of the way through this book and that with gritted teeth.

It started well - nice action setting in what looked to be a really interesting world. Then it went down hill from there.

Very rapidly. In a nutshell the book is very poorly written, exhibiting a considerable lack of maturity in character development, character scripting and plot development.

It read like the author had sat down one day and written, without reading back over what she'd done. Repetitive in many places, full of irrelevant information and poorly executed interaction of characters that left me feeling like I was in a plastic world of barbie dolls.

I don't mind cliche if it is done well. This was not. Oct 16, Ira rated it really liked it Shelves: fantasy , kick-ass-heroine , strong-heroine , kindle-unlimited , vampires , witches , gods-and-goddess , angels , demons.

The plot was intense and gripping i'm eager to see how it all turns out I am withholding my 5 star due to the characters, i felt there personalities seemed to flutter about alot Nero went from stoic to chuckling to guzzling drugs Leda was stubborn and brave but occasionally cruel the other characters were a little bland But for such a short book it really was exceptional, fingers cros For the first book this was amazing, The author painted such a vivid picture of the post apocalyptic world.

But for such a short book it really was exceptional, fingers crossed for a little more character development in next book!!! Oct 20, CourtRocks' rated it it was ok.

The writing was cheesy and at times cringey. The plot was cliche, which is sad because the world building was unique, but the romance and drama kind of ruined it all.

The characters also acted like they were all in high school when they're supposed to be at least in their early 20s.

Same goes for the heroine though. She was a bounty hunter but loses against everyone in hand to hand combat. The whole plot is because the heroine's brother gets taken and they are so devastated, so, without any internal struggle, she joins this deadly legion place, and you know how many times she thinks of her brother when she joins?

It's like she totally forgets her family when she joins and all she can think about was the hero who is a bit creepy tbh, or the forced OM drama that keeps being brought up for literally no reason at all, and just turned out to be a bit humiliating for the heroine.

Saying you are is one thing, but your actions actually have to live up to all the talk. Also, the whole legion place is whack.

What are they even fighting for? They're all just so okay with their lives being treated like trash and to be killed off on the first day over a drink?

It's definitely a little messed up that all your fellow trainees are dying right in front of you for no reason, and you don't even give it a second thought.

Then again everyone's reactions to everything are also whack. One second someone would be totally happy, and the next they are randomly wiping a tear off their face when I didn't even know they were crying.

We get no buildup of emotions or reactions, they just happen as soon as the words appear. Overall, a not so great book. I wish the "romance" would have stayed out of it, because I wasn't a fan of it, or the hero at all.

Not sure if I will read the second book or not to see if it gets any better, but I don't think I will. Mar 09, Rhiannon Chillingworth rated it really liked it.

It feels like a long time since I read a good old fashioned Urban Fantasy book, after my Year long fall into the Reverse Harem rabbit hole, and I really enjoyed this, apart from one small thing, which I'll get to in a bit.

For me, the has all of the ingredients which make a good UF book: good world building, good plot, with a pair of characets with sizzling chemistry in what is clearly going to be a good slow burn romance.

I love Nero! My only quibble is that Leda is a little too much of a special It feels like a long time since I read a good old fashioned Urban Fantasy book, after my Year long fall into the Reverse Harem rabbit hole, and I really enjoyed this, apart from one small thing, which I'll get to in a bit.

My only quibble is that Leda is a little too much of a special snowflake. This didn't bother until the last third, where you have this organisation of experienced bass assets, yet she was the only one who knew what was going on However, that was just a niggle, and if I didn't have a new shiny ARC to read right now I'd be picking the next one up.

Straight away! Aug 29, Ashley rated it liked it Shelves: urban-fantasy. I like the idea of the Legion in this, and the angels and demons at war.

One day a routine hunt goes awry and her brother goes missing without a trace. Willing to do anything to get her brother back she decides to join the Legion of Angels in NY.

Each level gains the soldiers special powers and not everyone makes it through every level. As the days go by she finds out more and more about the gods, demons and other conspiracy.

At the training camp she heads butt with the tough as nails Angel Nero who is training them to be the best of the best.

Thus begins her training and her quest to get closer to finding her brother with each passing day. I thought the premise of this book was quite interesting and it was fairly fast paced.

The world building was just ok. This book just did not rock for me. I'm not quite sure what or where the issue was but everything just felt mediocre with this one.

The characters I just couldn't connect with them. The romance interest as well kind of felt flat. If you have not read it I do recommend that one.

Nov 05, Chanel rated it liked it Shelves: pnr-uf. Vampires Kiss features a family of bounty hunters under the business name Pandora's Box.

In this fantasy, there are gods, angels, witches, vampires, werewolves and humans. A humans are born with an some type of magical affinity but they are able to become angels if they go through this legion academy and reach level 9.

For context, most people die at level 1. Leda and her family are business as usual until a hunt almost goes bad and then her brother Zane gets kidnapped.

The only way to save him i Vampires Kiss features a family of bounty hunters under the business name Pandora's Box.

The only way to save him is for her to join the Legion because if she reaches level none she'll get a special gift ability that will allow her to track him.

In addition to that ability she will be super strong, and be able to heal and a host of other things. The story started off strong for me. Here is a family stressing out about their missing member and how to get him back while trying to figure out what is going on with all these vampires and other supernaturals suddenly showing up.

The dialogue was great; believable even in a fantasy world. However things took a turn when Leda joined the legion.

The dialogue suddenly resembled that of a high school drama complete with a short lived, hilarious love triangle and one over the top piece of plot after another.

I rated it 3 stars even though it's probably closer to 2 simply because it entertained me enough to keep reading to see what happens next. The ending wasn't exactly a huge cliffhanger but it does leave you wondering.
